Duke Overwhelms Army in Lopsided Road Victory

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — In a display of overwhelming offensive firepower and suffocating defense, the Duke Blue Devils delivered a decisive 114-59 victory over the Army Black Knights in a non-conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at a sold-out Christl Arena.

From the opening tip, the Blue Devils established a pace and precision that the Black Knights could not match. Duke’s offense operated with ruthless efficiency, scoring on its first possession with a 3-pointer from Isaiah Evans and never looking back. The visitors built a 19-point lead by halftime, 49-30, and then exploded for 65 points in the second half to turn the contest into a rout before an announced crowd of 5,326.

The statistical disparity was stark, illustrating Duke’s dominance in nearly every facet of the game. The Blue Devils shot 56.9 percent from the field, connecting on 37 of 65 attempts, while Army managed just a 30.9 percent clip, making 21 of 68 shots. The long-range shooting was particularly lopsided; Duke hit 16 of 37 from beyond the arc, while Army was held to 12 of 49.

Duke’s offensive rating of 146.6 points per 100 possessions dwarfed Army’s mark of 76.3, showcasing a level of execution that the Black Knights’ defense had no answer for. The Blue Devils also capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, making 24 of 29 attempts, and dominated inside with 42 points in the paint compared to Army’s 18.

The transition game was another key area of dominance, with Duke racking up 31 fastbreak points while limiting Army to just six. The Blue Devils also forced 14 turnovers, converting them into 26 points.

Duke’s scoring was a balanced and prolific affair, with six players reaching double figures. Dame Sarr, a 6-foot-8 forward from Oderzo, Italy, led all scorers with 19 points in just 20 minutes of action. He was instrumental in the first-half surge that put the game out of reach.

Cameron Boozer, a 6-foot-9 standout from Miami, Florida, provided a strong all-around performance with 15 points and four assists. His brother, Cayden Boozer, also from Miami, orchestrated the offense with eight assists to go along with 10 points. Isaiah Evans contributed 17 points, while Patrick Ngongba controlled the interior with 16 points. Darren Harris came off the bench to add 15 points, all from 3-point range.

For Army, Jackson Furman was a bright spot amidst the struggle, scoring 20 points to lead the Black Knights. No other Army player reached double figures as the team’s offense consistently stalled against Duke’s length and defensive pressure.

The game’s outcome was never in doubt after the first ten minutes. Duke used a 15-2 run midway through the first half, punctuated by a sequence of steals and transition baskets from Sarr, to build a commanding lead. The Blue Devils’ ball movement was crisp, resulting in several highlight-reel alley-oop dunks and open three-pointers.

Any hope of an Army comeback was extinguished early in the second half as Duke opened with a 16-3 run, pushing the lead past 30 points and allowing head coach Jon Scheyer to liberally substitute for the remainder of the contest.

With the win, Duke improves to 3-0 on the young season, having previously defeated Texas and Western Carolina by significant margins. Army falls to 1-2 after splitting its first two games against SUNY Maritime and Saint Thomas (Minn.).

Duke will look to continue its strong start when it hosts Indiana State on Friday. Army will aim to rebound at home against Harvard on Saturday.

According to pregame analytics, Duke was projected with a 99.6 percent probability to win and entered the game as a 30.5-point favorite. The combined score of 173 points sailed over the pregame over/under line of 149.
