Texas Tech Dominates Lindenwood in Season Opener Behind Anderson’s 34 Points

LUBBOCK, Texas (Interstat) — In a dominant season-opening performance that showcased their offensive firepower and defensive pressure, the Texas Tech Red Raiders overwhelmed the visiting Lindenwood Lions 98-60 in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Tuesday night at a boisterous United Spirit Arena.

A crowd of 8,056 watched as the Red Raiders, living up to their status as heavy pregame favorites, unleashed a devastating first-half blitz that effectively decided the contest before the halftime buzzer. The victory launched Texas Tech’s campaign with a 1-0 record, while Lindenwood begins its season at 0-1.

The game unfolded as a stark contrast in tempo and execution. Texas Tech’s relentless defensive pressure and transition game proved to be the decisive factors. The Red Raiders capitalized on Lindenwood’s mistakes, converting turnovers into 19 points, and dominated in fastbreak situations, outscoring the Lions 24-2 in that category. This ability to turn defense into instant offense prevented Lindenwood from ever establishing a rhythm or mounting a significant challenge.

The first half was a masterclass in offensive efficiency from the home team. Texas Tech exploded for 58 points before the break, building an insurmountable 28-point lead. Lindenwood, meanwhile, managed 30 points in the half and could not find an answer for the Red Raiders’ multifaceted attack. The Lions matched their first-half output with another 30 points in the second period, but Texas Tech’s 40 points after intermission were more than enough to maintain a comfortable margin and cruise to the 38-point victory.

The star of the night was Texas Tech guard Christian Anderson, who delivered a spectacular all-around performance. Anderson logged 37 minutes and stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high 34 points, seven rebounds and a remarkable 11 assists. His playmaking and scoring prowess were the engine of the Red Raiders’ offense, consistently breaking down the Lindenwood defense and creating high-percentage shots for himself and his teammates.

Anderson was ably supported by Donovan Atwell, who provided a potent secondary scoring option. Atwell played 35 minutes and poured in 22 points, adding four rebounds. The inside presence was controlled by Nolan Groves, who dominated the glass. In 27 minutes of action, Groves hauled in a game-high 16 rebounds to go with seven points and three assists, ensuring the Red Raiders controlled possession and limited Lindenwood’s second-chance opportunities.

The Texas Tech offense was a balanced affair, with several other players making significant contributions. Jaylen Petty neared a triple-double with nine points, eight rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes. Marial Akuentok and Tyeree Bryan each added seven points and eight rebounds, while Leon Horner provided a spark off the bench with 10 points in just 12 minutes of play.

For Lindenwood, the bright spots came in the form of individual efforts on the boards. Milos Nenadic recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action, also blocking two shots. Robert Lewis also secured a double-double, battling for 10 points and 12 rebounds. Mekhi Cooper led the Lions in scoring, finishing with 15 points and five rebounds in 34 minutes.

Despite being competitive in the paint, where Texas Tech held a narrow 26-22 advantage, the Lions were undone by their inability to handle the Red Raiders’ defensive intensity and their struggles to get back in transition. The lopsided margins in points off turnovers and fastbreak points told the story of a game dictated entirely by Texas Tech’s preferred pace and style.

The result was in line with pregame expectations, as statistical models gave Texas Tech a 97.5 percent probability of victory, and the Red Raiders easily covered the pregame spread. The combined score of 158 points sailed well over the projected over/under line.

Looking ahead, the Lindenwood Lions will seek their first win of the young season when they return home to face UHSP on Thursday, Nov. 6. Their early schedule remains challenging, with a road game at Saint Louis on Nov. 10 and a neutral-site contest against Charleston Southern in Huntsville, Alabama, on Nov. 14. A high-profile road test at Indiana awaits on Nov. 20.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders, meanwhile, will continue their homestand at United Spirit Arena, hosting Sam Houston on Friday, Nov. 7. A significant early-season road test looms on Tuesday, Nov. 11, when the Red Raiders travel to face Illinois. The non-conference schedule remains formidable, with upcoming games against Wake Forest in the Bahamas and a December showdown against Duke at Madison Square Garden in New York.
