Kantserov’s Overtime Winner Lifts Metallurg Over Salavat Yulaev

UFA, Russia (Interstat) — Roman Kantserov scored 2:19 into overtime to give Metallurg Magnitogorsk a 2-1 victory over Salavat Yulaev in a Kontinental Hockey League game Wednesday at Ufa Arena.

The teams traded second-period goals, with Daniil Vovchenko giving Metallurg the lead before Salavat Yulaev’s Jack Rodewald answered. Goaltender Alexander Smolin secured the win with 28 saves for Metallurg, which improved its league-leading record to 46-17. Salavat Yulaev fell to 33-31.

The outcome defied a pregame projection that favored the home team. Metallurg avenged a shootout loss to Salavat Yulaev last month.
