Barys Astana at Sibir Novosibirsk
NOVOSIBIRSK, Russia (Interstat) — Two of the Kontinental Hockey League’s struggling clubs will meet Monday when Sibir Novosibirsk hosts Barys Astana at the Ice Sports Palace Sibir.
Both teams enter the contest on losing streaks. Barys (11-20-0) has dropped its last two games, including a 5-2 road loss to Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Saturday. Forward Tyce Thompson scored one of Barys’ goals in the defeat, registering a team-high seven shots on goal.
Sibir (9-22-0) has also lost two straight, most recently falling 4-2 at home to Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg on Saturday. Anton Kosolapov was a bright spot in the loss, notching a goal and an assist.
The season series has been tightly contested. The teams have split two shootout decisions this season, with Sibir winning 1-0 in Novosibirsk on Oct. 5 and Barys earning a 6-4 victory in Astana on Sept. 27. Their most recent matchup on Oct. 14 saw Sibir prevail 4-3 in a shootout.
The game marks the start of a home-and-home set, with the teams scheduled to meet again in Astana on Dec. 7.
