Metallurg Magnitogorsk at Barys Astana

ASTANA, Kazakhstan (Interstat) — The surging Metallurg Magnitogorsk, boasting the best record in the Kontinental Hockey League, visits the struggling Barys Astana on Sunday in a matchup of teams at opposite ends of the standings.

Metallurg M (18-6-0) enters the contest riding a three-game winning streak, including a 3-1 road victory over Amur Khabarovsk on Friday. Forward Roman Kantserov, who had a goal and an assist in that win, has been a key contributor for the league leaders.

Barys (8-16-0) snapped a three-game skid with a 3-2 overtime win against Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg on Friday. Forwards Tyce Thompson, Mason Morelli and Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan each scored in the victory, which provided a rare bright spot in a difficult season.

The teams last met on Sept. 18, when Metallurg M dominated in a 5-1 home win. Metallurg has won four of its last five games, while Barys has just two wins in its last eight contests.

The game will be played at Barys Arena in Astana.
