Dinamo Minsk at Lada Togliatti
TOLYATTI, Russia (Interstat) — Stanislav Galiyev scored twice, including the tying goal in the third period, and Alex Limoges netted the game-winner with just over three minutes remaining as Dinamo Minsk rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat Lada 4-3 on Wednesday in a Kontinental Hockey League matchup at Lada Arena.
The visiting Bison, who were shut out 5-0 by CSKA Moscow just two days prior, looked headed for a second straight loss after a listless start. Instead, they mounted a stunning comeback against a Lada team that has now lost 13 of its first 17 games.
The game was a tale of two halves, with Lada dominating the early proceedings. The home team capitalized on a disjointed Dinamo Minsk squad, building a commanding 4-0 lead through the first half of the contest. Goaltender Ivan Bocharov was a wall for Lada through the first 31 minutes, turning aside all 22 shots he faced to that point.
The momentum shifted decisively after a tripping penalty to Lada’s Ivan Savchik at the 32:35 mark of the second period. Just 47 seconds into the ensuing power play, Sam Anas finally solved Bocharov, putting Dinamo Minsk on the board with his 10th goal of the season at 33:22, assisted by Vitaly Pinchuk.
The goal seemed to rattle Lada, as Sergei Shumakov was called for delaying the game on the ensuing faceoff, giving Dinamo Minsk a 5-on-3 advantage. The visitors needed only 1:11 of the two-man advantage to strike again. Galiyev netted his first of the afternoon at 34:33, with assists from Limoges and Anas, cutting the deficit to 4-2 and silencing the home crowd.
Dinamo Minsk carried that energy into the third period. After a hooking call to Lada’s Dmitry Kugryshev at 43:56, Galiyev struck again on the power play just 30 seconds into the man-advantage, completing his brace and bringing the Bison within a single goal at 44:26.
The comeback was completed at 56:55. With the Dinamo Minsk attack applying sustained pressure, Limoges buried his seventh of the season off a feed from Pinchuk, who recorded his second assist of the afternoon. Anas also picked up a helper, his third point of the game.
Lada’s frustration boiled over just 14 seconds after the go-ahead goal, as Andrei Obidin was sent off for high-sticking, effectively extinguishing any chance for a late equalizer.
The loss extends a difficult stretch for Lada, which has now been outscored 14-4 in its last three games, including back-to-back shutout losses to Amur Khabarovsk and Admiral Vladivostok prior to this collapse. The team’s record falls to 4-13.
Dinamo Minsk, meanwhile, improves to 7-6 on the season, snapping a two-game skid. The victory defied a penalty-filled afternoon for the Bison, who were shorthanded five times. The win also bucked recent history, as Dinamo Minsk had lost three of its last four contests.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Minsk on Nov. 8.
Notes: The game was a statistical anomaly compared to pregame projections. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Dinamo Minsk 2, Lada 1, while its ELO system gave Dinamo Minsk a 71.80 percent probability to win, neither of which anticipated the wild swing in momentum that defined the contest. … Lada defenseman Vladislav Syomin led his team with three hits and two shots on goal. … Dinamo Minsk’s next game is Friday at home against Red Star Kunlun. … Lada returns to action Friday at home against Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.
