Sibir Novosibirsk at Salavat Yulaev Ufa
UFA, Russia (Interstat) — A struggling Salavat Yulaev Ufa, off to its worst start in recent memory, will seek its first home win of the season Wednesday against a Sibir Novosibirsk team that narrowly defeated them less than a week ago.
The Kontinental Hockey League matchup at Ufa Arena pits a Salavat Yulaev squad (1-7-0) mired in a six-game losing streak against a Sibir club (4-5-0) looking to build momentum after a recent victory over this same opponent.
The teams last met on Sept. 24 in Novosibirsk, where Sibir earned a 3-2 shootout win. Salavat Yulaev has not won since its season opener on Sept. 8.
Sibir arrives following a 4-3 road loss to Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Monday. Forwards Scott Wilson, Alexei Yakovlev and Pavel Gogolev each scored a goal in the defeat. Wilson led the team with five shots on goal.
Salavat Yulaev is coming off a 5-2 home loss to Avangard Omsk on Saturday. The team has been outscored 28-11 during its current skid and has yet to win on home ice this season.
The game is the first of a home-and-home series between the clubs, who will meet again in Novosibirsk on Oct. 23.
