SKA Saint Petersburg at Lada Togliatti

TOGLIATTI, Russia (Interstat) — Yegor Zavragin stopped all 29 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season, and SKA Saint Petersburg used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Lada Togliatti 3-0 in a Kontinental Hockey League game Sunday at Lada Arena.

The victory gave SKA a sweep of the home-and-home series after defeating Lada 6-1 in Saint Petersburg just one week prior. The shutout loss extended a difficult start to the season for Lada, which has now been outscored 25-6 during a four-game losing streak.

SKA needed just over a minute to open the scoring. Defenseman Markus Phillips sent a pass to Ross Grimaldi, who beat Lada netminder Ilya Konovalov for his second goal of the season at the 1:20 mark of the first period. Sergei Sapego was credited with a secondary assist.

The game remained a tight, one-goal affair until late in the second period. SKA doubled its lead at 31:32 when Nikita Dishkovsky set up Matvei Korotky for his second goal of the campaign, making it 2-0.

Lada applied consistent pressure, particularly during a second period where SKA was assessed three minor penalties, but could not solve Zavragin. The young goaltender was flawless, turning aside all 29 Lada shots to secure the win.

Dishkovsky iced the game with an empty-net goal at 58:12 of the third period, his third of the season, with assists from Matvei Polyakov and Brennan Menell. Dishkovsky finished the night with a goal and an assist.

The game was a penalty-filled affair, with SKA taking eight minor penalties to Lada’s three. Despite the disparity, Lada’s power play units were unable to capitalize on their numerous opportunities.

With the win, SKA improves its record across all competitions to 2-2. The team will next host Avangard Omsk on Tuesday. Lada’s record falls to 1-5. They will look to snap their skid when they host HC Sochi on Wednesday.
