SKA Saint Petersburg at Lada Togliatti

TOLYATTI, Russia (Interstat) — Two struggling Kontinental Hockey League teams will look to reverse their fortunes when SKA Saint Petersburg visits Lada Tolyatti on Sunday.

The game at Lada Arena pits a pair of clubs with identical 1-2-0 records, though Lada (1-4-0) has played two more games. Both are coming off lopsided losses and are seeking consistency early in the season.

SKA, based in St. Petersburg, is looking to build on its lone victory, a decisive 6-1 win over this same Lada team just one week ago on Sept. 14. Forwards Valentin Zykov, Igor Larionov and Matvei Korotky were the most productive players for SKA in that contest. However, SKA has struggled on the road, dropping its first two away games of the season in overtime to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and in regulation to Red Star Kunlun.

Lada returns home after a difficult two-game stretch where it was outscored 11-2, including a 5-1 loss to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod on Thursday. In that game, forward Dmitry Kugryshev provided a lone bright spot for Lada, scoring the team’s only goal. The team’s sole victory came on Sept. 8, a 4-3 win over Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, SKA is projected to win a low-scoring affair with a final score of 2-1.

Following this game, SKA returns home to host Avangard Omsk on Tuesday. Lada continues its homestand, welcoming HC Sochi on Wednesday.
