Lokomotiv Yaroslavl at CSKA Moscow
MOSCOW (Interstat) — A pair of 3-2 teams coming off high-scoring, yet opposite, results will clash Thursday when Lokomotiv Yaroslavl visits CSKA Moscow in a Kontinental Hockey League matchup at CSKA Ice Palace.
The visiting Lokomotiv (3-2-0) arrives with momentum after a decisive 6-1 road victory over Lada Togliatti on Tuesday. Forward Pavel Kraskovsky recorded two assists in the win.
CSKA (3-1-1), meanwhile, looks to rebound from a 6-5 shootout loss to city rival Spartak Moscow on home ice Tuesday. Forwards Pavel Karnaukhov and Denis Zernov were productive in the defeat, with Karnaukhov scoring a goal and Zernov adding an assist.
Both teams have shown inconsistency early in the season. Lokomotiv’s three wins have been convincing, but they have been outscored 9-5 in their two losses. CSKA opened the season with a dominant 6-2 win over Dynamo Moscow but was shut out 2-0 by HC Sochi last Friday.
According to Interstat, Lokomotiv enters as the favorite. The service’s game simulator projects a 3-2 victory for the visitors, and its ELO rating system gives Lokomotiv a 68.5% probability to win.
Following Thursday’s contest, Lokomotiv returns home for a three-game stand starting Monday against HC Sochi. CSKA embarks on a three-game road trip through Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Admiral Vladivostok and Amur Khabarovsk beginning Sunday.
The two rivals are scheduled to meet again in Yaroslavl on Oct. 15.
