Kia at Hanwha
DAEJEON, South Korea (Interstat) — The Kia Tigers visit the Hanwha Eagles on Tuesday evening at Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium, with first pitch set under cloudy skies and a temperature of 68 degrees.
Kia enters with a 32-27-1 record, while Hanwha sits at 30-27.
The Tigers are coming off a 7-6 win Sunday against the Samsung Lions, a game in which third baseman Kim Do-yeong went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Kim has been Kia’s most productive hitter over the past week. Over his last 10 games, Kim has four multi-hit performances, including three home runs and six RBIs. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI on June 4 against Lotte, and he homered again June 3 in a loss to the Giants.
Hanwha counters with designated hitter Yonathan Perlaza, who has been equally hot. Perlaza went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in Hanwha’s 9-8 win Sunday at Lotte. In his previous two games, he combined to go 5-for-8 with two home runs and four RBIs. Over his last five games, Perlaza is batting .429 with three home runs and eight RBIs.
The teams split the season series 3-3. Hanwha won 11-8 and 7-2 at Kia on May 6-7, after the Tigers took two of three in Daejeon in April, winning 9-3, 6-5 and 6-5.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Eagles win, and the ELO system gives Hanwha a 54.4% probability to win.
The Tigers have won four of their last six. Pitching was a key factor in Sunday’s win: starter James Naile tossed six innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts, and reliever Cho Sang-woo threw two scoreless innings.
Hanwha has won six of its last eight. In Sunday’s win, relievers Yun San-heum and Park Sang-won combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.
This is the first of a three-game series between the division rivals. The teams also play Wednesday and Thursday at Daejeon Hanbat before Hanwha travels to Kiwoom and Kia hosts Doosan.
