KT at Shinsegae

INCHEON, South Korea (Interstat) — The first-place KT Wiz visit the Shinsegae Landers on Saturday afternoon at Munhak Baseball Stadium, seeking to rebound from a one-run loss in the series opener.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a temperature of 69 degrees.

KT (33-23-1) holds a commanding lead atop the standings, but the Landers (25-31-2) have proven a tough matchup at home. Shinsegae won Friday’s series opener 6-5, handing KT its second loss in three games. The Landers have taken four of the last seven meetings between the clubs, including two of three at home in April.

Right-hander Mon Yong-ik is a pitcher to watch for the Wiz. In Friday’s loss, he lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts. He worked 2 2/3 innings of relief in a win at Kiwoom on May 30, surrendering four earned runs on four hits.

Shinsegae center fielder Choi Ji-hoon has been a primary offensive catalyst. He went 2 for 3 with two home runs and two RBIs in Friday’s victory, extending a recent hot streak. Over his last 11 games, Choi has three home runs and four RBIs, though he has also struck out in four of those contests.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-1 KT victory, and the outlet’s ELO system gives the Wiz a 53.6 percent probability to win. KT’s pitching staff has posted a 3.92 ERA over its last 10 games, while Shinsegae has averaged 4.7 runs per game in that same span.

The Landers will look to build momentum after snapping a five-game losing streak with Thursday’s win over Kiwoom. Prior to that skid, Shinsegae had dropped 10 of 11.

KT concludes its two-game series at Incheon on Sunday before returning home to host the Samsung Lions on Tuesday. Shinsegae also hosts the Wiz on Sunday before traveling to face the LG Twins on Tuesday.
