Doosan Bears Shut Out KT Wiz 5‑0 Behind Benjamin

SEOUL (Interstat) — Benjamin pitched seven innings of two-hit shutout ball and Daz Cameron homered as the Doosan Bears defeated the KT Wiz 5-0 on Wednesday night at Jamsil Stadium.

Benjamin struck out five, walked none and allowed only two singles while lowering his earned-run average to 1.29 over his past two starts. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and did not permit a runner past second base until the fifth inning.

Cameron provided the decisive blow in the third inning, launching a two-run homer to left field off KT starter Sugimoto Koki that scored Park Ji-hoon and gave Doosan a 3-0 lead. Cameron finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Doosan catcher Yun Jun-ho drove in two runs, going 2 for 4 with a run-scoring single in the second inning and an RBI single in the fourth. His second-inning single brought home Kim Min-seok, who had singled and stolen second base. Yun’s fourth-inning single scored Jo Soo-haeng, who led off with a bunt single and advanced on a passed ball.

The Bears took control early, scoring once in the second inning, twice in the third and once more in the fourth. KT managed only three hits in the game, all singles, and never advanced a runner past third base. The Wiz left five runners on base, including two in scoring position in the second inning when they had runners on second and third with one out.

KT’s best scoring chance came in the top of the second inning. Sam Hilliard singled in front of right fielder and later advanced to second on a groundout. Jang Sung-woo then hit an infield single on a slow roller to shortstop, putting runners on first and third with one out. But Benjamin struck out Oh Yoon-suk and got Lee Gang-min to ground out to first base.

Sugimoto took the loss for KT, allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks in one inning of work. He faced eight batters, recorded one out and did not strike out a batter.

The Doosan bullpen closed the game with two scoreless innings. Kim Jeong-woo pitched a perfect eighth inning on 14 pitches, and Kim Jeong-woon struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.

The game featured only one error, a fielding miscue by the KT catcher in the sixth inning on a steal attempt.

The two teams meet again Thursday at Jamsil Stadium in the series finale. KT travels to face the Kiwoom Heroes on Friday for a three-game weekend set, while Doosan heads to Samsung for a three-game series.
