Doosan Bears Rally Past Kia Tigers for Series Win

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — Park Jun-soon launched two home runs and drove in three as the Doosan Bears overcame an early deficit to defeat the Kia Tigers 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at a sun-drenched Jamsil Stadium, securing a series victory in their weekend set.

A crowd of 23,750 watched the Bears, who entered the day with the Korean Baseball Organization’s second-worst record, rally behind their slugging second baseman and a strong start from Choi Min-seok to improve to 7-11. The Tigers fell to 10-9.

The game’s pivotal sequence arrived in the bottom of the fifth inning, erasing Kia’s last lead and shifting momentum permanently to the home side. Trailing 3-1, Doosan’s Park Chan-ho led off with a double down the left field line. A sacrifice bunt moved him to third, and Park Jun-soon drove him home with a fielder’s choice, cutting the deficit to one. After advancing to second on a groundout, Park Jun-soon scored the tying run on a sharp double to right-center by Kim Min-seok.

That rally chased Kia veteran starter Yang Hyeon-jong, who was charged with four runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings. The Bears then took the lead for good an inning later when import Daz Cameron led off the sixth with a solo home run to left field off reliever Hwang Dong-ha, making it 4-3.

Park Jun-soon provided critical insurance in the seventh, crushing his second homer of the day, a solo shot, to extend the Doosan lead to 5-3. The Bears added a final run in the eighth on an RBI single.

Kia had built its early advantage with a pair of runs in the fourth. Harold Castro doubled and later scored on a single by Kim Ho-ryung. Na Sung-bum, who walked, then came home on a sacrifice fly by Jeong Hyun-chang. The Tigers’ other run came in the eighth when Park Min doubled home Kim Ho-ryung, but they could not complete the comeback, stranding potential tying runs on base.

Doosan starter Choi Min-seok earned the win, settling after the fourth inning to complete six frames, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Kim Taek-yeon navigated 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief before Tamura Ichiro and Han Jae-seung handled the final outs.

The result defied pregame projections from Interstat, which gave Kia a 53.6% probability to win and simulated a 7-4 Tigers victory. The combined nine runs also went under the posted over/under line of 9.0.

The series win marks a positive turn for Doosan after a difficult start to the season. They took two of three from Kia, including a 10-inning victory on Saturday. The Tigers, who had won seven of their last ten entering Sunday, now head to Suwon for a three-game series against the KT Wiz beginning Tuesday. The Bears will travel to Busan to face the Lotte Giants, also starting Tuesday.
