Samsung Lions Crush Hanwha Eagles Behind Early Onslaught

DAEJEON, South Korea (Interstat) — The Samsung Lions erupted for seven first-inning runs and pounded out 18 hits in a 13-5 rout of the Hanwha Eagles on Wednesday evening at Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium.

Samsung sent 12 men to the plate in the opening frame, highlighted by a two-run double from Jeon Byeong-woo, who finished with four RBIs. The Lions added four more in the fifth to lead 11-3.

Hanwha’s Heo In-seo hit a two-run homer in the sixth, but the Eagles’ early deficit was too large. Samsung reliever Jang Chan-hee earned top star honors with 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Attendance was 17,000 for the game that lasted 3 hours, 29 minutes.

The Lions improved to 10-4-1, while the Eagles fell to 6-9. The teams meet again Thursday to conclude the series.
