Doosan Bears Rout Shinsegae Landers Behind Early Offensive Onslaught
INCHEON, South Korea (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal of pregame expectations, the Doosan Bears erupted for a season-high offensive output behind a masterful pitching performance to rout the Shinsegae Landers 11-3 on Tuesday evening at a damp Munhak Baseball Stadium.
The game, played before a crowd of 12,752, was decisively shaped by a relentless third and fourth inning barrage from the Bears’ lineup and a commanding start from right-hander Choi Min-seok. The victory snapped a two-game skid for Doosan and improved their season record to 5-8-1, while Shinsegae fell to an even 7-7-1.
The result defied the projections, as Interstat’s game simulator had predicted a 3-2 Landers victory, and its ELO system gave the home team a 59.7 percent probability to win. Shinsegae had been installed as a 1.5-run favorite, but the Bears’ 13-hit attack easily covered the spread and the combined 14 runs went under the posted over/under line of 10.5.
The most critical sequence of the game unfolded between the third and fourth innings, transforming a tight contest into a lopsided affair. Entering the top of the third with a narrow 1-0 lead, the Bears’ offense ignited. Shortstop Park Chan-ho led off the frame by launching a solo home run to left field. After a walk to Son Ah-seop, Park Jun-soon drove him in with a single. The inning’s crushing blow came from veteran catcher Yang Eui-ji, who smashed a two-run homer to extend the lead to 5-0.
Doosan was far from finished. In the fourth, they sent ten men to the plate and broke the game open with a six-run explosion. Jung Soo-bin started it with a single, and Park Chan-ho followed with an RBI double. Designated hitter Son Ah-seop then powered a two-run homer to center. Later in the inning, with Yang Eui-ji aboard via a walk, import Daz Cameron capped the onslaught by crushing a two-run home run to deep center field, pushing the advantage to 11-1.
That overwhelming support was more than enough for starter Choi Min-seok, who delivered his third straight quality start to earn the win. The right-hander navigated six strong innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out four and walking one. The only damage against him came in the second inning when Shinsegae center fielder Choi Ji-hoon connected for a two-run homer following a two-out error. Choi Min-seok then settled in, blanking the Landers over his final four innings of work.
His performance continued an excellent personal run. In his previous two starts, he had pitched 5.2 scoreless innings in a win over Kiwoom and 6.0 scoreless in a hard-luck loss at Samsung.
Shinsegae’s pitching staff struggled from the outset. Starter Han Doo-sol was pulled after just two innings, having allowed one run. The bullpen fared much worse, with Jang Ji-hun and others unable to stem the Bears’ tide during the pivotal middle innings. The Landers’ lone other run came in the seventh on a solo home run by Park Seong-han off Doosan reliever Kim Jeong-woo, who otherwise pitched a scoreless inning.
Park Chan-ho led the Bears’ offensive charge, finishing a triple shy of the cycle with a 3-for-5 night that included a home run, a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Yang Eui-ji drove in three runs with his homer and a sacrifice fly, while Son Ah-seop and Cameron each contributed two-run homers.
For the Landers, Choi Ji-hoon’s two-run shot provided their only significant offense, as they managed just six hits total against three Doosan pitchers.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday evening at Munhak Stadium for the second game of their midweek series. Doosan will look to build momentum before a weekend homestand against the Kia Tigers, while Shinsegae aims to rebound before heading on the road to face the NC Dinos.
