Twins Rout Landers to Complete Series Sweep
SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The LG Twins capitalized on a cascade of Shinsegae Landers mistakes, erupting for six runs in a decisive fifth inning to complete a three-game series sweep with a 9-1 victory Sunday afternoon and evening at a packed Jamsil Stadium.
A crowd of 23,750 watched the home team dismantle the Landers, turning a close game into a rout and solidifying their position atop the early season standings. The Twins improved to 9-4 with their fourth consecutive win, while the Landers fell to 7-6, dropping their third straight.
The game’s complexion changed utterly in the fateful bottom of the fifth, which stood as the most important sequence of the contest. What had been a manageable 4-1 deficit for Shinsegae unraveled into an insurmountable chasm due to a combination of timely Twins hitting and critical Landers fielding failures.
The inning began routinely with Austin Dean grounding out. But Moon Bo-gyeong’s walk ignited the rally. Oh Ji-hwan, who finished the day with three hits, singled to right-center, advancing Moon to third. Park Hae-min then delivered an RBI single to center, scoring Moon to make it 5-1. After Hong Chang-ki was hit by a pitch to load the bases, the Landers’ defense imploded.
Park Dong-won hit a grounder that should have been at least a force out, but an error on the play allowed Oh Ji-hwan to score and kept the bases loaded. The next batter, Shin Min-jae, hit another potential inning-ending grounder, but Shinsegae could only get a fielder’s choice at home, allowing another run to cross. Cheon Seong-ho then capped the offensive explosion with yet another fielder’s choice, this time plating Park Dong-won. When the dust settled, the Twins had sent 10 men to the plate, scored six runs on only three hits, and benefited from two Shinsegae errors to take an 8-1 lead.
The Twins had methodically built their initial lead by chipping away against Shinsegae starter Kim Kwang-hyun. After the Landers struck first in the opening inning on back-to-back singles from Park Seong-han and Choi Jeong, LG tied the game in the third. Moon Sung-ju doubled in Shin Min-jae, who had walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Moon then scored on an RBI single from Austin Dean to give LG a 2-1 lead.
They extended the lead in the fourth, again aided by Shinsegae miscues. Oh Ji-hwan led off with a double, was bunted to third, and scored on a fielder’s choice by Hong Chang-ki. Hong later scored on Cheon Seong-ho’s groundout after advancing on an error by Shinsegae third baseman Ko Myeong-jun.
The Landers’ offense, which mustered eight hits, was stifled after the first inning. They put leadoff men on in the second and fourth but could not advance them. Ko Myeong-jun and Han Yoo-seom each had two hits for Shinsegae, but the heart of the order, featuring Guillermo Heredia, Choi Jeong and Kim Jae-hwan, combined to go 1-for-11.
LG added a final run in the eighth on a sequence of singles by Gu Bon-hyeok and Lee Young-bin for the 9-1 final.
The victory completed a dominant series for the Twins, who outscored the Landers 23-6 over the weekend following a 4-3 win on Saturday and a 10-2 win on Friday. The result defied the pregame projections from Interstat, which had simulated a narrow 6-5 LG win and gave the Twins a 63.2% probability of victory. Shinsegae had been installed as a 1.5-run favorite, but the total score of 10 runs did clear the over/under line of 9.5.
The Twins’ pitching staff effectively neutralized the Landers’ bats. Starter Lee Ji-gang earned the win with five innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits. The LG bullpen provided four perfect innings of relief to seal the game.
The series sweep marks a significant statement for the Twins early in the 2026 Korea Baseball Organization season, demonstrating an ability to exploit opponents’ mistakes and pull away in games. For the Landers, the weekend in Seoul exposed offensive inconsistencies and defensive vulnerabilities that halted the momentum from a strong start to the campaign.
LG now looks ahead to a three-game home set against the Lotte Giants beginning Tuesday. The Shinsegae Landers, seeking to halt their skid, return home to face the Doosan Bears in a three-game series starting the same day.
