Twins Rally Late, Edge Landers in Seoul

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — In a dramatic reversal fueled by a late-inning rally, the LG Twins overcame a strong offensive showing by the Shinsegae Landers to secure a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon and evening at a sun-drenched and then electrically charged Jamsil Stadium.

A crowd of 23,750 witnessed the Twins, who entered the game with a 62.9% win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, defy pregame expectations as underdogs. Despite being outhit 13-7 and trailing for the majority of the contest, LG’s timely hitting in the eighth inning proved decisive, handing the Landers their third loss in four games.

The game’s most critical sequence unfolded in the bottom of the eighth, transforming a one-run deficit into a permanent lead. Trailing 3-2, LG’s rally began against reliever Kim Min. Choi Won-yeong, who had entered the game earlier, worked a walk. Moon Bo-gyeong then delivered a sharp single to right-center, advancing the tying run into scoring position. That brought center fielder Park Hae-min, a key performer for the Twins, to the plate. Park, who had already doubled earlier in the game, drilled another double down the right field line, clearing the bases. Both Choi Won-yeong and pinch-runner Oh Ji-hwan raced home, giving LG its first lead of the day at 4-3. The two-run double was the crowning blow in a game the Landers had largely controlled.

Shinsegae’s offense was persistent, building its lead incrementally. They plated a single run in the second inning when shortstop Park Seong-han singled home An Sang-hyun. Park Seong-han was instrumental throughout, notching another RBI single in the fourth to drive in Cho Hyeong-woo and extend the lead to 2-0. The Landers added what seemed like a crucial insurance run in the seventh on a solo home run by designated hitter Kim Jae-hwan, making the score 3-1.

LG’s first run came in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Park Dong-won. They chipped away again in the seventh, capitalizing on a Landers error. With Park Dong-won on second after the miscue, Moon Sung-ju hit an infield single to the left side, allowing Dong-won to score and cut the deficit to 3-2, setting the stage for the eighth-inning heroics.

Pitching was a story of bullpen management. Shinsegae starter Kim Keon-woo pitched effectively into the middle innings, but the loss was charged to Kim Min after he surrendered the decisive hits in the eighth. For LG, starter Im Chan-kyu navigated through frequent traffic, allowing two runs over four innings. The Twins’ relief corps, however, was stellar. Following Im, a procession of hurlers — Jang Hyun-sik, Kim Jin-sung, You Young-chan, and Woo Kang-hoon — combined to hold the Landers to one run over the final five frames, with Woo Kang-hoon securing the final outs to preserve the comeback win.

The victory improved LG’s season record across all competitions to 8-4, solidifying their strong early-season form. The Shinsegae Landers, despite the potent 13-hit attack, fell to 7-5, continuing a recent uneven stretch. The total of seven runs combined fell well under the pregame over/under line of 9.5, another expectation upended by the afternoon’s events.

The two teams will conclude their series Sunday at Jamsil Stadium. The Landers will look to salvage a series split before heading home to face the Doosan Bears, while the Twins aim for a series sweep as they prepare to host the Lotte Giants next week.
