Lotte at Kiwoom

SEOUL (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum after identical 3-7 starts will meet Friday when the Lotte Giants visit the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok Sky Dome.

The Giants arrive buoyed by a 6-1 win over the KT Wiz on Wednesday, powered by a dominant outing from right-hander Kim Jin-uk. He will be a key player to watch after throwing eight innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits and striking out six. His season, however, has been uneven, following a rough start on April 2 where he yielded three runs in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to NC.

The Heroes, meanwhile, look to rebound from a 7-3 loss to the Doosan Bears. Reliever Oh Seok-joo provided a bright spot in that defeat with two scoreless innings. The right-hander has been effective in recent short appearances, not allowing an earned run in three of his last four outings, though he struggled in two others earlier in the month.

Both clubs have faced recent struggles. Prior to Wednesday’s win, Lotte had lost seven of eight games, including a three-game sweep by the Shinsegae Landers where they were outscored 28-11. Kiwoom has also lost four of its last six.

Despite the identical records, betting markets slightly favor the home team. Kiwoom has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of +1.5, and the over/under is set at 7.5 runs. However, Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 3-2 victory for Lotte, and its ELO rating system gives the Giants a 55% probability to win.

The series continues through the weekend, with games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Seoul before both teams embark on new road series next Tuesday.
