Doosan at Samsung

DAEGU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Samsung Lions look for their first win of the young season when they host the Doosan Bears on Wednesday evening at Daegu Samsung Lions Park in the second of a three-game series.

The Lions (0-2-1) remained winless after a 5-5, 11-inning tie with the Bears (1-1-1) on Tuesday. Samsung’s offense has struggled early, scoring just 10 total runs in three games.

First baseman Lewin Díaz will be a key figure for Samsung. He provided nearly all of the Lions’ offense in Tuesday’s tie, blasting a three-run home run as part of a 1-for-5 night. He is 2 for 12 (.167) on the season.

Doosan will counter with left-hander Zach Logue, who was excellent in his first start against these same Lions on Tuesday. Logue tossed seven strong innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. His performance kept the Bears in the game and earned a no-decision.

Weather could be a factor, with cloudy skies and a first-pitch temperature near 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 Celsius) forecast.

According to Interstat’s projections, Samsung is favored to break into the win column. The game simulator predicts a 5-4 Lions victory, and the ELO rating system gives Samsung a 60.2% probability to win.

The Bears’ season has been a mixed bag, following an opening 6-0 loss to the NC Dinos with a 9-6 victory, then the extra-inning tie to open this series.

Both teams will look to gain momentum before Thursday’s series finale. Following this set, Doosan returns to Seoul for a six-game homestand against the Hanwha Eagles and Kiwoom Heroes. Samsung embarks on a six-game road trip to face the KT Wiz and Kia Tigers beginning Friday.
