Greensboro vs. Stockton
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Greensboro Swarm used a dominant second-quarter surge to seize control and never looked back, defeating the Stockton Kings 119-104 in a G League matchup Friday night at Stockton Arena.
The victory improved Greensboro’s record to 39-16, while Stockton fell to 35-19. The Swarm have now won both meetings between the teams this week, having also edged the Kings 111-107 in North Carolina on Wednesday.
The game’s decisive stretch came in the second period. After leading 25-19 through one quarter, the Swarm erupted for 37 points in the second, outscoring the Kings by 15 to take a commanding 62-50 lead into halftime. Greensboro’s offense operated with consistent efficiency, shooting over 50% from the field for much of the night, while Stockton struggled to find a sustained rhythm against a active Swarm defense.
Stockton mounted its most serious challenge in the third quarter, outscoring Greensboro 33-27 behind a series of drives and jumpers from Dexter Dennis. The Kings managed to trim the deficit to as few as nine points, but could not get the key defensive stops needed to complete the comeback. Every time the Kings threatened, Greensboro answered with a critical basket, often from Tosan Evbuomwan in the paint or a timely three-pointer from the perimeter.
The Swarm reasserted their authority in the final frame, opening the fourth quarter with a quick 6-0 spurt to push the lead back to 18 points and effectively seal the game. Stockton never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Greensboro’s attack was balanced and persistent, with six players scoring in double figures. The Swarm shared the ball effectively, compiling 28 assists on 45 made field goals. Defensively, they forced 21 Stockton turnovers, converting them into 28 points, and outrebounded the Kings 52-45.
For Stockton, Dexter Dennis led all scorers with 32 points on 13-of-24 shooting. DaQuan Jeffries added 22 points and nine rebounds, while Jameer Nelson finished with 17 points and six assists. Patrick Baldwin contributed 15 points and eight rebounds.
The most important part of the game was Greensboro’s immediate and forceful response to Stockton’s third-quarter push. The Kings, playing at home and riding the momentum of a high-scoring period, had closed to within single digits and had several opportunities to cut the lead further. Instead, the Swarm opened the fourth quarter with consecutive scores by Jonas Aidoo and Tidjane Salaun, followed by a driving layup from Tosan Evbuomwan. This 6-0 run in the first 90 seconds of the quarter stretched the lead back to 95-80 and drained the momentum from the building. It was a clinical demonstration of poise by the visiting team, effectively extinguishing Stockton’s last hope of a rally and allowing Greensboro to manage the remainder of the contest comfortably.
The Swarm continue their West Coast road trip, while the Kings look to regroup before their next outing.
