Texas vs. Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (Interstat) — The Texas Legends used a dominant second-quarter surge to build an insurmountable lead and completed a road sweep of the Santa Cruz Warriors with a 134-116 victory in a G League game Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

The game turned decisively in a seven-minute stretch bridging the first and second quarters. After a tightly contested opening period that saw Santa Cruz lead 32-27, the Legends’ defense clamped down while their offense exploded. Texas outscored the Warriors 38-16 in the second quarter, transforming a five-point deficit into a 65-48 halftime advantage.

The defensive intensity of the Legends was the catalyst, forcing the Warriors into rushed shots and disrupting their offensive flow. Texas capitalized with a balanced and efficient attack, stretching the lead to as many as 22 points during the period. The Warriors never recovered from that decisive swing, despite a valiant 43-point third-quarter effort that briefly narrowed the gap.

Santa Cruz’s Franco Miller spearheaded the third-quarter rally with a series of driving layups and three-pointers, finishing as a key performer for the home team. However, each time the Warriors threatened, the Legends had an answer, primarily through the playmaking of Dalano Banton and the interior presence of Moussa Cisse. Texas consistently responded with timely baskets to maintain a double-digit cushion, then pulled away for good with a 35-point fourth quarter.

The win improved Texas to 21-29 on the season, while Santa Cruz fell to 15-35. The victory marked the Legends’ second straight over the Warriors in as many nights, following a 112-106 win on Friday.

The most important part of the game was unquestionably the Legends’ second-quarter run. It established not only a significant lead but also complete control of the game’s tempo and momentum. Santa Cruz’s high-scoring third quarter, while impressive, served only to make the score more respectable, as Texas never allowed its lead to dip into single digits in the final period. The early defensive stand and subsequent offensive explosion by the Legends proved to be the irreversible turning point.
