Osceola vs. Motor City

WALKER, Mich. (Interstat) — A dominant third-quarter explosion by the Motor City Cruise overcame a blistering start by the Osceola Magic and propelled the home team to a 132-118 victory in a G League matchup Friday night at DeltaPlex Arena.

The game turned decisively in a high-octane third period. After trailing by five at halftime, the Cruise erupted for 49 points in the quarter, overwhelming Osceola’s defense with a sustained offensive barrage. The run transformed a 61-56 deficit into a 105-94 lead heading into the final frame, a margin the Magic could not overcome.

Osceola had set a furious pace from the opening tip, scoring 41 points in the first quarter behind an early onslaught from Lester Quinones and Phillip Wheeler. The Magic led by as many as 13 in the period and maintained a lead throughout the first half, thanks in part to the interior presence of Colin Castleton.

The Cruise’s comeback was a collective effort, with six players scoring in double figures. Wendell Moore led all scorers with 24 points, while Isaac Jones added 22 points and seven rebounds in a pivotal battle at center. Bobi Klintman controlled the glass with 14 rebounds to go with 13 points, and Quincy Olivari provided 20 points off the bench, including several key baskets during the third-quarter surge.

Osceola’s offense, so potent early, cooled considerably in the second half. After Quinones’ 21-point first-half effort, the Magic struggled to find a consistent rhythm against a tightened Motor City defense. Castleton finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth consecutive double-double, and Wheeler contributed 23 points, but the Magic’s 20-point second quarter and inability to counter the Cruise’s third-quarter run proved costly.

The win improved Motor City’s record to 27-21, while Osceola, which entered the game with the league’s best record, fell to 33-16. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch at the same venue Saturday night.

The most important part of the game was the Cruise’s overwhelming 49-point third quarter, which completely reversed the momentum after Osceola’s strong first half. This period showcased Motor City’s offensive firepower and defensive adjustments, turning a five-point halftime deficit into an 11-point lead and effectively deciding the contest.
