Greensboro vs. Motor City

WALKER, Mich. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League showdown defined by a staggering momentum shift, the Motor City Cruise withstood a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Greensboro Swarm to secure a 143-132 victory on Wednesday night at DeltaPlex Arena.

The game’s most critical phase was not the opening tip, but the dramatic final period where a once-secure Cruise lead nearly evaporated. Motor City, after building a commanding 127-96 advantage through three quarters behind a dominant offensive display, saw its offense stall completely in the fourth. The Cruise managed only 16 points in the final frame, going scoreless for stretches as Greensboro’s defensive pressure intensified.

Conversely, the Swarm, led by center P.J. Hall and power forward Tosan Evbuomwan, found their rhythm. Greensboro unleashed a 36-point fourth quarter, methodically chipping away at the deficit. Hall was instrumental on both ends, scoring, assisting, and coming up with key steals and blocks during the rally. The Swarm’s run pulled them within single digits in the final minutes, applying significant pressure on the home team.

However, the Cruise’s early work proved insurmountable. Motor City had established control with explosive first-half offense, scoring 40 points in the first quarter and a blistering 45 in the second. Their 85-point first half gave them a 24-point cushion at the break, which they extended further in the third quarter. The interior combination of Isaac Jones and Tolu Smith, alongside the playmaking of Drew Peterson, provided a consistent scoring punch that Greensboro could not match for the first 36 minutes.

When the Swarm’s comeback bid reached its peak, the Cruise finally found a few crucial answers. Key baskets from Chaz Lanier and Jaden Akins in the final three minutes, coupled with a critical defensive stop, halted Greensboro’s momentum and allowed Motor City to close out the game from the free-throw line.

With the win, Motor City improved its season record to 26-21. Greensboro, despite the resilient late effort, fell to 33-15. The two teams split their regular-season series, with each winning on its home court. Both teams return to action on Friday, with Motor City hosting Osceola and Greensboro facing College Park.
