Mexico City vs. Valley
G League Preview: Capitanes Visit Suns in Tempe
TEMPE, Ariz. (Interstat) — A surging Mexico City Capitanes squad will face a struggling Valley Suns team in a G League matchup Tuesday night at Mullett Arena.
The Capitanes (27-18) enter on a high note, coming off a 116-105 road victory over Sioux Falls on Saturday. Guard James Bouknight led the way with 38 points and five assists, continuing a torrid scoring stretch. In his last 10 games, Bouknight is averaging 21.8 points, including four performances of 24 points or more.
Mexico City has won seven of its last 10 contests. Forward Andersson Garcia added a 14-point, 17-rebound double-double in the win over Sioux Falls.
Conversely, the Valley Suns (13-35) have lost seven of their last 10, including a 131-115 defeat at San Diego on Saturday. Despite the loss, guard Jaden Shackelford posted a triple-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. He has been a bright spot, averaging 27.1 points over his last seven games.
The teams represent opposite ends of the standings, with Mexico City competing for a playoff position and Valley near the bottom of the league. According to Interstat’s game simulator, Mexico City is projected to win 122-100.
The Capitanes’ efficient offense, averaging over 115 points during their recent successful stretch, will test a Valley defense that has allowed 121.3 points per game in its last seven outings.
These teams will meet again at Mullett Arena on Wednesday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
