South Bay Lakers Outlast Grand Rapids Gold in High-Scoring G League Affair

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Interstat) — The South Bay Lakers used a dominant second quarter to secure a 119-111 victory over the Grand Rapids Gold in a G League game Saturday at UCLA Health Training Center. The Lakers outscored the Gold 40-32 in the period to turn a narrow five-point lead after one quarter into a double-digit advantage they would not relinquish.

Grand Rapids, which got 28 points from K.J. Simpson, fought to keep pace but could not overcome the surge. The Lakers’ balanced attack was led by Malik Williams and R.J. Davis. The win improved South Bay’s record to 31-16, while Grand Rapids fell to 20-29. It was the Lakers’ second win over the Gold in as many nights.
