Mexico City vs. Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Interstat) — The Sioux Falls Skyforce delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance, overwhelming the Mexico City Capitanes 131-89 in a G League matchup Friday night at Sanford Pentagon.

From the opening tip, the Skyforce established a commanding tempo that the Capitanes never countered. Sioux Falls erupted for 33 points in the first quarter, fueled by early transition opportunities and stifling defense that forced a series of Mexico City turnovers. The lead ballooned to 69-49 by halftime as the Skyforce continued an efficient and relentless offensive assault, shooting 36 points in the second period.

The second half offered no respite for the visitors. Sioux Falls maintained its intensity, adding 31 points in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the lopsided victory. The Skyforce defense consistently disrupted Mexico City’s rhythm, converting turnovers into easy baskets and building a lead that stretched beyond 40 points.

The most important part of the game was the opening quarter, where Sioux Falls set the tone for the entire contest. The Skyforce opened with a 13-0 run before Mexico City registered its first points. Key early sequences included a steal and assist from Dennis Smith leading to a Trevor Keels dunk, followed by another Smith steal leading to a Dain Dainja layup. This immediate defensive pressure and transition offense buried the Capitanes in a deep deficit from which they never recovered. Mexico City used two full timeouts in the first quarter in an attempt to stem the tide, but the Skyforce’s momentum proved unstoppable.

Sioux Falls showcased a balanced and high-powered offense, with multiple players contributing to the rout. The team’s ball movement and shot creation were evident throughout, as they consistently found open looks against a disorganized Mexico City defense.

With the win, Sioux Falls improved its season record to 26-21 across all competitions. Mexico City fell to 26-18. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch at the same venue Saturday night.

The Skyforce’s victory exceeded the pregame expectations set by Interstat’s ELO system, which gave Sioux Falls a 60.9% probability to win. The margin of victory, however, was far wider than projected, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the home team’s performance.
