Windy City vs. Capital City
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — In a high-octane offensive showcase typical of the G League, the Capital City Go-Go outlasted the Windy City Bulls 154-143 on Friday night at CareFirst Arena. The game, a rematch from just two days prior, saw the Go-Go sweep the brief two-game home set and improve their season record to 24-23, while the Bulls fell to 22-25.
Despite the final margin, the contest was a tightly contested affair for much of the night, defined by a relentless back-and-forth pace and explosive individual performances. The most critical sequence came late in the fourth quarter with the outcome still in doubt. After Windy City’s Mac McClung hit a 27-foot 3-pointer to pull the Bulls within a single possession, Capital City’s Julian Reese answered with a driving layup and drew a foul. Following a timeout, Reese missed the ensuing free throw, but McClung struck again with another deep three-pointer, cutting the Go-Go lead to just two points with under two and a half minutes to play.
Capital City, however, displayed clutch execution down the stretch. On the next possession, Alondes Williams found Reese for a powerful dunk. After a Windy City miss, Williams secured the defensive rebound and quickly pushed the ball ahead to Nolan Hickman, who buried a decisive 25-foot 3-pointer from the wing with 19 seconds remaining, extending the lead to seven and effectively sealing the victory. Windy City’s Mouhamadou Gueye hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, but it was merely cosmetic.
The game’s offensive fireworks were evident from the opening tip. The first quarter alone featured 68 combined points, with Capital City holding a slim 38-30 edge. The pace never relented, as both teams scored at least 37 points in each of the final three quarters. The Go-Go’s 40-point fourth quarter proved to be the difference.
Windy City was led by a phenomenal performance from power forward Mouhamadou Gueye, who scored 40 points on efficient interior shooting, adding 7 rebounds and 2 assists in 45 minutes of action. Guard Mac McClung provided a massive scoring punch with 41 points and 6 assists, while center Giorgi Bezhanishvili recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Yuki Kawamura added 22 points and 7 rebounds.
Capital City countered with a more balanced and distribution-heavy attack. Point guard Kadary Richmond orchestrated the offense masterfully, tallying a double-double with 15 points and 15 assists. Shooting guard Alondes Williams narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists. The frontcourt duo of Chris Livingston and Julian Reese was dominant; Livingston posted 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Reese contributed 22 points and 12 rebounds. Off the bench, Damari Monsanto provided a crucial spark with 16 points in just 11 minutes, including several key three-pointers in the second half.
The win allowed Capital City to maintain a positive record and gain a slight edge in the standings. Windy City, despite the loss and a sub-.500 record, has shown improved form recently, having won three of its last five games entering Friday’s contest. Both teams continue their schedules on Sunday, with the Bulls traveling to face Birmingham and the Go-Go hosting Long Island.
