College Park vs. Westchester
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout that saw 249 combined points, the College Park Skyhawks outlasted the Westchester Knicks 128-121 on Thursday night at Westchester County Center.
The game’s decisive stretch came in the third quarter, where a massive surge by the home team was answered and ultimately overcome by the Skyhawks’ resilient offense. After building a 69-55 halftime lead, College Park watched Westchester erupt for 41 points in the third period. The Knicks, led by a flurry of outside shooting and transition baskets, repeatedly cut into the deficit, pulling within single digits and applying intense pressure on the Skyhawks’ defense.
However, each time Westchester mounted a charge, College Park had a response. The Skyhawks’ own offense remained potent, scoring 34 points in the quarter to maintain a 103-97 lead entering the final 12 minutes. The back-and-forth nature of the period, featuring multiple lead changes and momentum swings, proved to be the game’s critical juncture. College Park’s ability to match Westchester’s highest-scoring quarter of the night and preserve a working margin provided the cushion needed to secure the road victory.
The Skyhawks’ attack was consistently balanced and efficient throughout the night, scoring at least 33 points in each of the first three quarters. They set the tone early, leading 33-29 after one period and extending that lead to 14 points by halftime behind 36 points in the second quarter. Even as Westchester’s shooters found their rhythm after the break, College Park never surrendered the lead it established in the opening minutes.
Westchester’s comeback attempt was fueled by its performance from beyond the arc and relentless effort on the offensive glass, but the team could not consistently string together the defensive stops required to complete the rally. The Knicks trimmed the lead to a handful of possessions several times in the fourth quarter, but the Skyhawks consistently found answers, often through drives to the basket or timely assists, to keep Westchester at arm’s length.
The win improved College Park’s record to 15-29, while Westchester fell to 12-32. The two teams are scheduled to meet again at the same venue on Saturday.
According to Interstat’s ELO system, Westchester entered the game with a 70.9% probability to win, a projection overturned by the Skyhawks’ high-scoring and persistent effort. The game was characteristic of both teams’ seasons, featuring the offensive firepower that has defined their schedules while highlighting the defensive struggles that have led to their sub-.500 records.
The Skyhawks have now won three of their last four games, showing improved form as the season progresses. Westchester, despite the loss, demonstrated the offensive capability that recently produced a two-game winning streak, but continues to search for consistency at both ends of the floor.
