Salt Lake City vs. Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — The Iowa Wolves unleashed a historic offensive barrage in the second quarter, turning a close game into a rout en route to a 132-110 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars in a G League matchup Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

The decisive stretch came in a 12-minute span before halftime. After trailing 27-23 at the end of the first quarter, the Wolves exploded for 45 points in the second period. That offensive eruption, which set a franchise record for points in a quarter, propelled Iowa to a 68-53 halftime lead from which the Stars never recovered.

The Wolves’ offense operated with ruthless efficiency during the run, shooting a blistering percentage from the field and from three-point range. The quarter featured a balanced attack with multiple players contributing to the surge. The run was punctuated by a 26-foot three-pointer from Jalen Crutcher just before the halftime buzzer, sending the Wolves into the locker room with all momentum.

Salt Lake City, which fell to 26-22 with the loss, showed resilience but could not mount a sustained challenge against Iowa’s offensive firepower. The Stars were led by a steady scoring effort, posting quarters of 27, 26, 29 and 28 points, but were simply overwhelmed by the Wolves’ record-setting pace.

Iowa, improving to 26-20, maintained its offensive pressure after halftime, adding 32 points in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the comfortable win. The victory marked the second time in three nights the Wolves defeated the Stars by a significant margin, following a 132-106 win on Monday.

The Wolves’ performance was a collective effort, with Jules Bernard, Julian Phillips and Enrique Freeman making key plays during the pivotal second-quarter surge. Rocco Zikarsky, the 7-foot-3 center from Australia, provided a strong interior presence with multiple blocks and rebounds that fueled Iowa’s transition game.

For Salt Lake City, Sean East and Max Abmas orchestrated the offense, but the team’s defense had no answer for Iowa’s multifaceted attack, particularly during the fateful second quarter. The Stars have now lost three consecutive games.

The Wolves will look to carry this offensive momentum into a two-game road series at Texas starting Friday. Salt Lake City continues its road trip with a visit to Stockton on Saturday.
