Salt Lake City vs. Iowa

Preview: Salt Lake City Stars at Iowa Wolves

DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — The Salt Lake City Stars (26-20) and Iowa Wolves (24-20) meet in a pivotal G League Western Conference matchup Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena, just two days after Iowa delivered a stunning 66-39 victory in the same building.

Monday’s result, an outlier for both teams’ typically high-scoring offenses, adds immediate intrigue to the quick rematch. The Wolves’ defensive dominance held the Stars to a season-low in points, a performance Salt Lake City is eager to avenge as both clubs jockey for playoff positioning in a tight race.

Salt Lake City arrives after a 116-105 road loss to Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, concluding a challenging 1-2 road trip. The Stars will lean heavily on guard Sean East, who has been a consistent offensive force. Over his last 10 games, East is averaging 25.6 points and 5.4 assists, including a 39-point outing last month. In Saturday’s loss, he posted 23 points, five rebounds and six assists.

Iowa looks to snap a three-game skid, with all losses coming in high-scoring affairs. Their most recent was a 125-106 defeat at South Bay last Friday. The Wolves’ standout has been center Joan Beringer, who has recorded a double-double in three consecutive games. Over that stretch, Beringer averaged 20.7 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, providing a formidable interior presence.

The Stars’ offense, which averages over 120 points per game outside of Monday’s anomaly, will test an Iowa defense that allowed an average of 130 points during its losing streak. Conversely, the Wolves will aim to replicate Monday’s defensive intensity against a Salt Lake City team that shot just 24.6% from the field in that contest.

With nearly identical records and critical standing points on the line, Wednesday’s contest offers Salt Lake City a chance for swift redemption and Iowa an opportunity to build a winning streak and solidify its hold on a playoff spot.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central at Wells Fargo Arena.
