Windy City vs. Capital City
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout at CareFirst Arena on Wednesday night, the Capital City Go-Go used a dominant second quarter to seize control and held off a persistent Windy City Bulls squad for a 133-122 victory.
The game turned decisively in the second period. After a competitive first quarter that saw Windy City lead 28-26, the Go-Go erupted for 39 points. A relentless offensive barrage, fueled by transition opportunities and efficient half-court execution, overwhelmed the Bulls. Capital City’s 39-point quarter, matched again in the third, built a cushion that proved insurmountable despite Windy City’s own 35-point outburst in the final frame.
The Go-Go’s attack was multifaceted. Alondes Williams provided scoring and playmaking, while Chris Livingston of Akron, Ohio, was a constant force attacking the basket and on the glass. The interior presence of Julian Reese, a hometown product from Baltimore, Maryland, and the backcourt orchestration of Nolan Hickman of Seattle, Washington, and Kadary Richmond of Brooklyn, New York, kept the Capital City offense humming with balance and pace.
Windy City, which fell to 22-24, was led by the dynamic play of Mac McClung. The point guard’s scoring bursts kept the Bulls within striking distance throughout the contest. Support came from center Giorgi Bezhanishvili and forward Mouhamadou Gueye, who combined for interior scoring and defensive activity. Kevin Knox and Lucas Williamson also contributed key baskets for the visitors.
The most critical phase of the game was Capital City’s sustained run bridging the second and third quarters. After Windy City closed to within a single possession early in the second, the Go-Go unleashed a 22-7 surge over a four-minute span. The run was characterized by defensive stops leading to easy scores, including dunks by Williams and Reese, and punctuated by a 3-pointer from Damari Monsanto. This stretch extended a narrow lead to 18 points and established a game-long rhythm where Windy City was perpetually playing catch-up against a Capital City offense that found answers every time the Bulls threatened.
Capital City, which evened its record at 23-23 with the win, defied the pregame statistical projections which heavily favored them. The victory sets up a quick rematch between the two teams at the same venue on Friday night.
