Maine vs. Osceola

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League showdown that saw 16 lead changes and neither team lead by more than nine points, the Maine Celtics avenged a lopsided loss from just two days prior by outlasting the Osceola Magic 119-112 on Tuesday night at Silver Spurs Arena.

The most critical phase of the game arrived in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. After Osceola’s Lester Quinones hit a 3-pointer to cut Maine’s lead to 111-109 with 1:24 remaining, the Celtics’ defense stiffened. On the ensuing possession, Keon Johnson drew a foul and calmly sank two free throws to push the lead back to four. Following a defensive stop, John Tonje secured a crucial defensive rebound and was fouled, making both free throws with 10 seconds left to effectively seal the victory at 119-112, capping a 7-3 closing run for Maine.

The game was a stark contrast to Sunday’s meeting, which Osceola won by 31 points. This time, Maine established an early offensive rhythm, shooting efficiently in the first half to take a 66-55 lead into halftime. The Celtics’ ball movement and scoring balance were evident, with six players finishing in double figures.

Osceola, however, refused to fade. Led by Quinones and Justin Minaya, the Magic chipped away in the third quarter and mounted several serious challenges in the fourth. A driving dunk by Quinones followed by a 3-pointer from Javonte Smart brought Osceola within a single possession multiple times down the stretch, but Maine consistently answered with a critical basket or defensive play to maintain its narrow advantage.

John Tonje led all scorers for Maine, demonstrating clutch shooting throughout the night. His backcourt mate, Hayden Gray, facilitated the offense with timely assists. For Osceola, Lester Quinones provided a scoring spark, while Justin Minaya contributed key baskets and defensive plays, including multiple blocks.

The win improved Maine’s season record to 23-21, while Osceola, which entered the game with an 83.6% win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, fell to 27-14. The Celtics’ victory snapped a two-game head-to-head losing streak against the Magic.

Maine next hosts Grand Rapids on Friday. Osceola faces a quick turnaround, hosting Wisconsin on Wednesday.
