Mexico City vs. Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Interstat) — A surging Mexico City Capitanes squad will look to continue its climb up the G League standings when it visits the struggling Grand Rapids Gold on Tuesday night at Van Andel Arena.

The Capitanes (25-16) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a road sweep of the Wisconsin Herd last weekend. Their most recent victory was a 116-97 rout on Saturday, powered by Felipe Haase’s 22 points. Mexico City has won seven of its last nine games overall.

Grand Rapids (19-23), meanwhile, seeks to halt a slide that has seen it lose eight of its last 11 contests. The Gold are coming off a 126-120 home loss to Capital City on Thursday despite a 35-point, 6-assist effort from Dane Goodwin.

A key matchup will feature two of the league’s most consistent performers. Mexico City’s Andersson Garcia has been a force, recording a double-double in six of his last eight games. Over that stretch, the forward is averaging 13.8 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, including a 20-rebound performance on March 3.

Goodwin has been the offensive engine for the Gold, scoring 20 or more points in eight of his last ten outings. He is averaging 24.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists during that span, including a 36-point, 10-rebound, 5-assist game on Feb. 19.

The teams are meeting for the first time this season. Mexico City currently holds the fourth-best record in the Western Conference, while Grand Rapids sits near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT.
