Texas vs. Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — In a game they were overwhelmingly projected to lose, the Texas Legends authored a resilient road victory, outlasting the Salt Lake City Stars 121-114 in overtime on Monday afternoon in a G League contest at Delta Center.

The Legends, who entered with a 15-26 record and were given just an 11.2% chance to win by Interstat’s ELO system, snapped a two-game skid and handed the Stars, now 25-18, a surprising home defeat. The game was a tale of contrasting offensive surges, with Texas building an early lead, Salt Lake City answering with a dominant middle stretch, and the Legends finding a final gear when it mattered most.

Texas established control in the first quarter, shooting efficiently to take a 28-22 lead. The Legends extended that advantage to 57-59 by halftime, showcasing balanced scoring. The third quarter, however, belonged entirely to the Stars. Salt Lake City erupted for 32 points, spearheaded by the backcourt duo of Sean East and Max Abmas, while holding Texas to 28. This flipped the game, giving the Stars a 91-85 lead heading into the final period.

The fourth quarter saw the Legends chip away at the deficit with methodical execution. Key plays down the stretch included a driving layup and a critical assist from Dalano Banton to Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, whose basket with 35 seconds left tied the game and ultimately forced overtime, knotted at 112-112.

The extra period was decisively won by Texas, which dominated 9-2. The Legends’ defense clamped down, holding Salt Lake City to just two free throws in the five-minute frame. Offensively, Texas sealed the game from the perimeter, with Banton and Miles Kelly hitting crucial three-pointers that provided an insurmountable cushion.

The most important sequence of the game occurred in the final minutes of regulation and the beginning of overtime. After battling back to force the extra period, Texas carried that momentum forward immediately. The Legends opened overtime with a quick score and then stifled the Stars’ offense completely. Salt Lake City’s only points in overtime came from the free-throw line, as they failed to make a single field goal, missing all five attempts and committing two turnovers. This defensive stand, combined with timely three-point shooting, transformed a hard-fought comeback into a commanding overtime victory.

Miles Kelly, a small forward from Stone Mountain, Georgia, led Texas with a versatile and high-scoring performance. Sean East countered for Salt Lake City with a dynamic showing at shooting guard. The Legends’ center Moussa Cisse of Conakry, Guinea, provided a strong interior presence, while Salt Lake City’s Dereon Seabron and Steven Crowl contributed significant efforts in the loss.

The win improves Texas to 16-26, while Salt Lake City falls to 25-19. The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at Delta Center on Tuesday night.
