Austin vs. Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Interstat) — In a wild offensive showcase that required a final defensive stand, the Austin Spurs edged the Sioux Falls Skyforce 119-118 in a G League thriller Sunday at the Sanford Pentagon.
The game, a rematch of a Skyforce victory just 24 hours earlier, was decided on the final possession. With six seconds remaining and Austin leading by one, Sioux Falls’ Josh Christopher drove for a potential go-ahead layup, but his attempt was blocked by Emanuel Miller. The Skyforce retained possession, and Jahmir Young’s rushed running jumper missed. Gabe Madsen grabbed the offensive rebound but could not convert a follow-up shot as time expired, securing the narrow victory for the Spurs.
The most important part of the game was Austin’s explosive fourth-quarter rally and subsequent clutch finish. After trailing by as many as 10 points in the third quarter and entering the final period down 95-81, the Spurs unleashed a 38-point fourth quarter, their highest-scoring period of the game. The comeback was fueled by a blistering shooting display, particularly from guard Adam Flagler, who scored 15 of his game-high 28 points in the final frame, including four three-pointers.
Austin’s victory improved its record to 29-12, while Sioux Falls fell to 24-20. Interstat’s ELO system had given the Skyforce a 57.3% probability to win.
The Spurs were led by a balanced effort. Beyond Flagler’s 28 points and five assists, Harrison Ingram posted 15 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. James Banks dominated the glass with 19 rebounds to go with six points and three blocks. Elfrid Payton orchestrated the offense with 12 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.
For Sioux Falls, center Dain Dainja of Chicago was a force, scoring 25 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Jahmir Young added 23 points and five assists, while Josh Christopher finished with 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Keshad Johnson contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
The game featured 16 lead changes and was a tale of contrasting halves. Austin started strong, leading 61-67 at halftime behind 30 points in the first quarter. Sioux Falls responded with a dominant 66-51 second and third quarter combined, spearheaded by Dainja’s interior play, to build a double-digit lead. The Spurs’ resilience in the fourth, however, coupled with key defensive plays down the stretch, allowed them to escape with the one-point win and split the two-game series.
Austin next plays at Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday. Sioux Falls hosts Stockton on Wednesday.
