Rio Grande Valley vs. Windy City
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (Interstat) — A surging Rio Grande Valley Vipers squad will look to continue its push up the standings when it visits the struggling Windy City Bulls in a G League matchup Sunday at Sears Centre.
The Vipers (24-15) enter on a strong run, having won seven of their last nine games, including a 123-121 road victory over Raptors 905 on Wednesday. They currently sit five games above .500.
Windy City (19-20), meanwhile, has lost two straight and five of its last seven, most recently a 148-105 defeat in Cleveland on Tuesday. The Bulls will aim to stabilize and get back to the .500 mark on their home floor.
Rio Grande Valley is led by guard Tristen Newton, who is averaging 25.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists over his last six contests. He nearly posted a triple-double with 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in Wednesday’s win.
Windy City will counter with forward Mouhamadou Gueye, a consistent interior force. He is coming off a 22-point, 12-rebound performance against Cleveland and has recorded four double-doubles in his last seven games, often contributing multiple blocks.
In their last outing, the Vipers needed big performances from Newton and Daishen Nix, who scored 27 points, to edge Raptors 905. The Bulls were overwhelmed defensively in Cleveland, allowing a season-worst 148 points.
The game will be the only regular-season meeting between the teams this year. Following this contest, Rio Grande Valley begins a three-game homestand Tuesday against Austin. Windy City opens a brief two-game homestand Tuesday against College Park.
Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon.
