Austin vs. Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League showdown defined by offensive firepower and a decisive third-quarter surge, the Sioux Falls Skyforce outlasted the Austin Spurs 116-109 on Saturday night at the Sanford Pentagon.
The game turned decisively in the third quarter. After a competitive first half that saw Sioux Falls take a 57-43 lead into the break, the Skyforce unleashed a blistering offensive display to open the second half, quickly extending their advantage. The period was punctuated by a critical sequence where Sioux Falls guard Josh Christopher converted a tough two-point shot while drawing a foul, part of a personal run that helped stifle Austin’s attempts to rally. The Skyforce outscored the Spurs 27-31 in the quarter to carry a commanding 16-point lead into the final frame.
Austin mounted a significant comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, scoring 35 points, their highest total of any period. The Spurs’ offense, led by a flurry of activity from Adam Flagler and Kyle Mangas, whittled the deficit down to a single possession in the closing minutes. A driving layup by Adam Flagler brought Austin within three points with just over a minute remaining.
However, Sioux Falls responded with clutch plays to seal the victory. Following Flagler’s basket, the Skyforce executed efficiently in the half-court, with Keshad Johnson finishing a driving dunk off an assist from Dennis Smith to push the lead back to five. After a pair of free throws by Austin’s Kyle Mangas, Sioux Falls delivered the final blow. With 31 seconds left, Josh Christopher soared for an alley-oop dunk, assisted by Johnson, to re-establish a seven-point cushion and effectively end the Spurs’ hopes.
Christopher’s all-around performance was pivotal for Sioux Falls, impacting the game with scoring, playmaking and defensive energy. For Austin, Harrison Ingram provided consistent offense and activity, while the backcourt combination of Mangas and Flagler fueled the late surge that ultimately fell short.
With the win, Sioux Falls improved its season record to 24-19 across all competitions. Austin, which entered the game on a two-game winning streak, fell to 28-12. The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at the Sanford Pentagon on Sunday.
