Valley vs. Rip City

PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — In a G League thriller defined by relentless offense and a frantic final minute, the Rip City Remix edged the Valley Suns 126-125 on Saturday night at Chiles Center.

The game, a nail-biting sequel to the Remix’s 132-122 victory just 24 hours earlier, was decided in the closing seconds after a series of lead changes and crucial plays.

Valley, which led for much of the contest, held a 125-124 advantage with under 10 seconds remaining after Sean McDermott converted a layup off a Jaden Shackelford assist. The Suns’ defense then forced a critical turnover, with Shackelford stealing an inbound pass from Jaylen Martin to seemingly secure possession with a chance to extend the lead.

But the Suns’ celebration was premature. On the ensuing inbounds play, Valley’s C.J. Huntley was called for a foul, sending Rip City’s Javonte Cooke to the line with eight seconds left. Cooke made the first free throw to tie the game and, after missing the second, the Remix secured a final defensive stop. R.J. Nembhard’s fadeaway jumper at the buzzer missed, and Cooke grabbed the rebound as time expired to seal the one-point victory.

The game was a showcase of back-and-forth execution, particularly in a high-scoring fourth quarter where both teams scored 36 points. The Suns, who fell to 12-30, were led by a dynamic performance from Huntley, the 6-foot-11 center from Huntersville, North Carolina. His versatility was on full display, impacting the game with interior scoring, perimeter shooting, and key assists. Shackelford provided consistent scoring from the guard position, while McDermott hit several clutch three-pointers in the second half to keep Valley in front during multiple Rip City surges.

The Remix, improving to 24-18, were propelled by the scoring of Chris Youngblood. The shooting guard from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was instrumental in the final period, attacking the rim and hitting a crucial three-pointer to help erase a late deficit. His backcourt mate, Caleb Love of St. Louis, provided penetrating drives and playmaking, while center Yang Hansen facilitated the offense with several assists and contributed key baskets.

Rip City overcame a strong start from the visitors. Valley built an early lead, shooting efficiently in the first half to take a 58-54 advantage into halftime. The Suns extended their lead to as many as nine points in the third quarter before the Remix mounted a comeback, closing the period on a run to narrow the gap and set the stage for the dramatic finish.

The contest was a marked improvement for Valley, which has struggled throughout the season but pushed a playoff-contending Remix squad to the brink on the road for the second consecutive night. For Rip City, the win provided a measure of resilience after surviving the Suns’ best offensive effort of the season series.

Both teams continue their schedules on the road next week. Valley travels to face the Wisconsin Herd on Monday, while Rip City heads to San Diego for a two-game set starting Wednesday.
