Valley vs. Rip City

PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout Friday night, the Rip City Remix outlasted the visiting Valley Suns 132-122 at Chiles Center. The game was a tale of offensive firepower, with neither team able to establish a significant defensive foothold, but the home team’s consistent scoring across all four quarters and a decisive late push proved the difference.

The Remix, improving to 23-18, set the tone early with a 35-point first quarter, narrowly edging the Suns by eight points. Valley, which fell to 12-29, showcased its own offensive capabilities, particularly from beyond the arc, but could never fully close the gap after the initial period. Each time the Suns mounted a challenge, Rip City had an answer, maintaining a lead that fluctuated between single and double digits throughout the contest.

The most critical phase of the game arrived in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. With the Suns persistently within striking distance, trailing 120-114 after a Sean McDermott dunk with just over two minutes remaining, the Remix executed a series of clutch plays to seal the victory. On the ensuing possession, Rip City’s Caleb Love converted a steal into a running dunk and completed a three-point play at the free-throw line after being fouled. Following a Valley turnover, Javonte Cooke added another layup, swiftly expanding a six-point lead to 127-114 in a devastating 30-second span.

That sequence effectively ended the Suns’ hopes. Valley’s RJ Nembhard hit two free throws and Jaden Shackelford sank a deep three-pointer in the closing seconds, but the Remix responded each time, including a layup from center Yang Hansen and two final free throws from Love to secure the 10-point margin.

The game was characterized by fluid ball movement and individual scoring bursts from both sides. The Remix benefited from a balanced attack and controlled the interior, while the Suns relied heavily on perimeter shooting. The teams combined for a relentless pace, with the lead changing hands several times in the early going before Rip City established a firm, if not entirely safe, advantage.

The two teams will meet again in a quick rematch Saturday night at Chiles Center, offering Valley an immediate opportunity for redemption and Rip City a chance to solidify its position in the standings with another home victory.
