Long Island vs. Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — In a frantic finish that required multiple timeouts, replay reviews and clutch free throws, the Long Island Nets edged the Greensboro Swarm 117-115 in a G League thriller on Friday night at Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.
The victory marked the Nets’ second consecutive win over the Swarm in three days, following a 116-111 result on Wednesday, and improved Long Island to 25-18. Greensboro, which entered the game with the league’s best record, fell to 29-12.
The game’s decisive sequence unfolded in the final 15 seconds. After Terrell Brown hit a 3-pointer for Greensboro to cut the deficit to 116-115, Long Island’s E.J. Liddell was called for an offensive foul on the ensuing inbounds play, giving the Swarm possession with a chance to win.
Greensboro’s Josiah Allick was fouled but missed both free throws with 14 seconds left. Long Island’s Hunter Cattoor then split a pair at the line with 12 seconds remaining for a two-point Nets lead.
On Greensboro’s final possession, Drake Powell blocked a Tosan Evbuomwan 3-point attempt, but Evbuomwan secured the offensive rebound. Liam McNeeley was fouled on a 3-point shot attempt with one-tenth of a second remaining. McNeeley made the first two free throws to tie the game but missed the potential game-winning third attempt, securing the victory for Long Island.
The game was a back-and-forth affair characterized by offensive runs. Long Island built an early lead behind a strong first quarter, taking a 31-30 edge. Greensboro responded with a 31-point third quarter to keep pace, but the Nets’ 34-point fourth-quarter outburst, fueled by key baskets from Liddell and Chaney Johnson, provided just enough cushion to survive the Swarm’s late push.
Liddell, a 6-foot-6 center, was instrumental for Long Island throughout the contest, contributing across multiple quarters with scoring, rebounding and playmaking. His performance was complemented by Johnson, the power forward from Alabaster, Alabama, who made critical free throws and baskets in the final minutes.
For Greensboro, Evbuomwan provided consistent interior scoring, while Brown orchestrated the offense and hit the late 3-pointer that set up the dramatic finish.
The contest featured 10 lead changes and was tied nine times, reflecting the narrow margin that persisted until the final buzzer. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Greensboro with an 80.5% probability to win, making the Nets’ road victory a significant upset.
Long Island next plays at Osceola on March 15. Greensboro hosts Motor City on Saturday.
