Long Island vs. Greensboro
Preview: Long Island Nets at Greensboro Swarm
GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — The surging Greensboro Swarm, owners of the G League’s best record, will host the Long Island Nets in a mid-week matchup on Wednesday at Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.
The Swarm (29-10) enter on a five-game winning streak, having dominated their recent schedule. They are coming off a 141-106 road victory over Raptors 905 on Sunday, where the team shot 58% from the field. Center P.J. Hall has been a force, averaging a double-double during the streak. In his last five games, Hall is averaging 19.2 points and 14.6 rebounds, including a 27-point, 19-rebound performance on Feb. 28.
The Nets (23-18) have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over their last 10 contests. They are coming off a 117-111 home win over Westchester on Sunday, powered by a double-double from forward Chaney Johnson (15 points, 10 rebounds). Johnson has been a consistent performer, scoring in double figures in 10 consecutive games and averaging 15.4 points and 6.7 rebounds over that span.
This will be the third meeting between the teams this season. They split a two-game series in Long Island in November, with each team winning on the other’s home floor. The Nets won 128-113 on Nov. 22 before the Swarm responded with a 126-114 victory on Nov. 24.
Greensboro’s success has been built on both ends of the floor, boasting one of the league’s top offenses and a stout defense. They will test a Long Island defense that has allowed an average of 115.3 points per game this season.
For the Nets to pull the upset on the road, they will need another strong all-around effort from Johnson and backcourt support from guards like Malachi Smith, who scored 22 points in Sunday’s win. Containing Hall and the efficient Swarm offense, which has scored 126 or more points in three of its last five games, will be the primary challenge.
The teams will meet again at the same venue on Friday, making this a critical two-game set for potential playoff positioning.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
