Texas vs. Memphis
(Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout at the DeSoto Civic Center on Tuesday night, the Memphis Hustle avenged an earlier season loss by overpowering the Texas Legends 135-113. The game, which featured a relentless offensive display from the home team, saw the Hustle improve to 14-27 on the season while the Legends fell to 13-26.
The contest’s most pivotal sequence arrived in the second quarter, transforming what had been a tightly contested battle into a Memphis-dominated affair. After a fast-paced first quarter that ended with Texas holding a narrow 39-38 lead, the Hustle unleashed a devastating 31-15 period to seize firm control. Memphis’s offensive execution was clinical, spearheaded by a balanced attack that consistently found open shots. The Hustle defense simultaneously stifled the Legends, holding them to their lowest single-quarter output of the night. This 17-point swing, turning a one-point deficit into a 69-54 halftime advantage for Memphis, proved insurmountable for Texas.
The Hustle’s offensive momentum never relented after the break. They poured in 35 points in the third quarter and another 31 in the fourth, consistently answering any attempt by the Legends to mount a comeback. The Memphis attack was a model of distribution, with multiple players contributing to the scoring onslaught. This collective effort overwhelmed a Texas team that, despite scoring 113 points, could not string together the defensive stops necessary to close the gap.
The result defied the pre-game projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a Texas victory by 22 points, though its ELO rating system gave Memphis a 60.9 percent probability to win. The Hustle’s performance validated that latter metric in emphatic fashion.
For Memphis, the win marked a positive rebound from a close loss to Austin just two days prior and evened the season series with Texas at one game apiece, following the Legends’ 132-123 victory in Memphis on Jan. 14. Both teams now look ahead to challenging stretches in the G League schedule, with the Hustle set to host Sioux Falls on Thursday and the Legends traveling to face Oklahoma City on Saturday.
