Motor City vs. Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (Interstat) — The Motor City Cruise withstood a persistent offensive challenge from the Oklahoma City Blue to secure a 129-121 victory in a G League contest Sunday at Cox Convention Center.

The game evolved into a high-scoring affair defined by runs, with the Cruise ultimately leveraging a more consistent offensive performance across all four quarters to pull away late. Motor City improved to 20-20 on the season, reaching the .500 mark, while Oklahoma City fell to 13-26.

The most critical phase of the game occurred in the second quarter, where the Cruise established a cushion they would never fully relinquish. After a tightly contested first quarter that saw Oklahoma City hold a 33-27 lead, Motor City’s offense ignited. The Cruise erupted for 35 points in the period, spearheaded by efficient inside play and timely outside shooting. This surge allowed them to not only erase the deficit but build a 62-67 halftime advantage, outscoring the Blue by eight in the quarter.

Oklahoma City, led by the versatile play of Brooks Barnhizer and the inside presence of Viktor Lakhin, refused to fade. The Blue kept the pressure on throughout the third quarter, but each time they threatened to close the gap, the Cruise had an answer, often from Isaac Jones in the paint or Wendell Moore on the perimeter. Motor City maintained its offensive pace with 32 points in the third to take a 94-96 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter saw the Cruise finally create decisive separation. With the Blue within striking distance, Motor City executed key stops and converted on the other end. A driving dunk by Wendell Moore off a Drew Peterson steal and assist extended the lead to eight with just over seven minutes remaining. Peterson then buried a crucial three-pointer on the next possession, pushing the advantage to 11 and forcing an Oklahoma City timeout.

Despite the Blue’s efforts to rally, the Cruise’s offense proved too potent down the stretch. Peterson and Moore combined for critical baskets and free throws in the final minutes to seal the victory, ensuring Oklahoma City never got closer than six points in the game’s final moments.

Isaac Jones provided a dominant interior performance for Motor City, controlling the glass and finishing efficiently around the rim. Wendell Moore offered a balanced offensive attack, while Drew Peterson’s playmaking and clutch shooting in the fourth quarter were instrumental. For Oklahoma City, Brooks Barnhizer filled the stat sheet with scoring, rebounding and assists, and Nikola Topic facilitated the offense effectively, but the Blue’s defense could not string together enough stops to overcome the Cruise’s sustained offensive output.

Motor City next travels to face Greensboro on Saturday, March 7. Oklahoma City returns to action at home against South Bay on Wednesday, March 4.
