Valley vs. Texas

FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — In a game defined by a decisive fourth-quarter surge, the Valley Suns overcame a high-powered offensive performance from the Texas Legends to secure a 112-105 victory in G League play Saturday night at Dr Pepper Arena.

The game turned in the final period after the Legends, who led 88-80 entering the fourth, saw their offense falter. Texas managed only 17 points in the quarter on 6-of-22 shooting, including 1 of 10 from three-point range. Valley capitalized with a 32-point quarter, fueled by interior dominance and timely outside shooting to erase the deficit and pull away.

The most important sequence of the game came midway through the fourth quarter with Valley building a narrow lead. After a Texas timeout trailing 99-93 with 5:58 remaining, the Suns’ defense stiffened. Valley forced consecutive shot clock violations and turnovers on key possessions, while on offense, they pounded the ball inside to center Khaman Maluach for easy baskets. This stretch allowed Valley to extend its lead to double digits and effectively seal the game, as Texas never got closer than seven points in the final three minutes.

Valley’s victory was anchored by a monumental rebounding advantage and efficient offense down the stretch. The Suns outrebounded the Legends 58-40, including a 23-8 edge on the offensive glass that led to 29 second-chance points. Despite shooting a lower percentage overall, Valley’s 18 additional shot attempts, a direct result of those offensive rebounds and a plus-two turnover margin, proved decisive.

C.J. Huntley led Valley with 20 points and 15 rebounds, adding five assists. His activity on both ends was pivotal during the comeback. Khaman Maluach posted a dominant double-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds, controlling the paint, especially in the fourth quarter. Sean McDermott added 22 points, hitting critical three-pointers, and R.J. Nembhard finished with 13 points and seven rebounds while directing the offense.

Texas was led by a stellar backcourt performance. Mark Armstrong scored a game-high 31 points, and A.J. Johnson added 27. Matt Cross recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Legends shot well for three quarters but could not sustain their offensive flow against Valley’s tightened defense when it mattered most.

The win improved Valley’s record to 12-27, while Texas fell to 13-25. The Suns snapped a three-game losing streak with the road victory, which defied the pregame statistical projection that favored the Legends. Valley completes a two-game season series sweep of Texas, having also won 107-100 on Jan. 23.

Both teams continue their schedules on the road next week. Valley travels to face Rip City in a back-to-back set starting March 6, while Texas visits Memphis on Tuesday.
