Greensboro vs. Raptors 905
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (Interstat) — The Greensboro Swarm used a dominant first half and a historic individual performance from center P.J. Hall to hand the Raptors 905 just their third home loss of the season, 126-114, in a G League matchup Saturday afternoon at Hershey Centre.
Greensboro seized control early, erupting for 39 points in the second quarter to build a 69-50 halftime lead. The Swarm’s interior dominance was the story, as they outrebounded Raptors 905 50-39 and grabbed a staggering 21 offensive rebounds leading to 30 second-chance points.
The engine of the victory was Hall, who delivered a monstrous performance with 27 points and 19 rebounds in just 33 minutes. The 6-foot-10 center was relentless on the glass, securing nine offensive rebounds and consistently finishing through contact. He added four assists and a block, anchoring a Greensboro attack that scored 126 points on 100 possessions for an elite offensive rating of 125.5.
Despite the deficit, Raptors 905 mounted a persistent challenge in the second half, fueled by efficient three-point shooting. The home team connected on 18 of 41 attempts from beyond the arc, a 43.9 percent clip, and outscored Greensboro 64-57 after halftime. Alijah Martin led the charge with 26 points and seven assists, while A.J. Hoggard provided a spark off the bench with 24 points and five assists.
Every Raptors push, however, was met with a Swarm response, often orchestrated by Hall or point guard Terrell Brown, who had 15 points and six assists. The Swarm’s ability to generate extra possessions proved decisive; they committed only 10 turnovers while forcing 15, and their 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds created a significant disparity in shot attempts. Greensboro took 100 field goals to the Raptors’ 88.
A key sequence early in the fourth quarter typified the game. After Raptors 905 cut the lead to 12 on an Olivier Sarr three-pointer with 8:30 remaining, the Swarm called timeout. Out of the break, Greensboro immediately went inside, with Tosan Evbuomwan scoring on a post move. On the next possession, Hall secured an offensive board and scored, stretching the lead back to 16 and effectively halting the rally.
Evbuomwan finished with 19 points for Greensboro, while Tidjane Salaun added 20. For Raptors 905, Jarkel Joiner neared a triple-double with 14 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and A.J. Lawson scored 21 points.
The loss dropped Raptors 905 to 30-10 overall, while Greensboro improved to 28-10. The teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at Hershey Centre on Sunday.
The most important part of the game was Greensboro’s overwhelming first-half performance, particularly a second quarter where they outscored Raptors 905 39-25. This period established a 19-point halftime cushion that provided a buffer against Toronto’s second-half three-point barrage. The Swarm’s physicality and rebounding, led by Hall, set an immediate tone that the Raptors could not overcome despite their efficient shooting from distance.
