Birmingham vs. Capital City

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Birmingham Squadron, propelled by a dominant third-quarter explosion, defeated the Capital City Go-Go 126-112 in a G League game Tuesday night at CareFirst Arena.

The most important stretch of the game arrived immediately after halftime. Holding a 58-51 lead, the Squadron unleashed a 46-point third quarter, overwhelming the Go-Go and turning a competitive contest into a decisive victory. Birmingham’s offensive execution was relentless, outscoring Capital City by 21 points in the period to build an insurmountable 104-76 advantage entering the final quarter.

Birmingham’s backcourt duo of D.J. Carton and Trey Alexander orchestrated the onslaught. Carton, the team’s top star, finished with 24 points and nine assists, consistently breaking down the defense. Alexander matched Carton’s 24 points and added eight assists. Their penetration and playmaking created opportunities throughout the lineup.

Inside, Hunter Dickinson provided a formidable presence for the Squadron, recording a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Josh Oduro added 18 points and nine rebounds, while Keion Brooks contributed 14 points off the bench.

Despite the loss, Capital City’s Chris Livingston delivered an outstanding individual performance. The power forward from Akron, Ohio, scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Point guard Keshon Gilbert facilitated the Go-Go offense with 18 points and 10 assists. Damari Monsanto provided a spark with 15 points, including several three-pointers during a late push.

The Go-Go mounted a spirited comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, scoring 36 points, but the deficit from the third quarter proved too large to overcome. Capital City’s rally was ultimately stifled by the Squadron’s earlier offensive clinic.

With the win, Birmingham improved its season record to 15-26. Capital City fell to 18-20. The result was an upset according to Interstat’s ELO system, which had projected the Go-Go with an 83.8 percent probability to win. The Squadron have now won two of their last three games, while the Go-Go have dropped two straight.

Birmingham next travels to face Santa Cruz on March 4. Capital City visits Westchester on Thursday.
