Osceola vs. Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Interstat) — The Osceola Magic used a dominant first half to secure a wire-to-wire 109-97 victory over the Grand Rapids Gold in a G League matchup Monday night at Van Andel Arena.
The Magic, improving to 24-11, never trailed after establishing an early double-digit lead in the opening quarter. A potent offensive start saw Osceola score 32 points in the first period and add 29 in the second to take a 61-51 advantage into halftime. The Gold, who fell to 17-20, could not cut the deficit to single digits in the second half, as the Magic maintained control by answering every rally.
The most critical phase of the game came in the final minutes of the first quarter. After Grand Rapids’ Coleman Hawkins tied the game at 2-2 with a layup, Osceola unleashed a decisive 14-2 run. The surge was fueled by Lester Quinones, who hit a 12-foot jumper and a 26-foot three-pointer, and Reece Beekman, who added a driving layup and a 27-foot three-pointer. Alex Morales capped the run with a layup to give the Magic a 16-4 lead with 8:38 remaining in the quarter. Grand Rapids struggled with turnovers during this stretch, committing three that led directly to Magic scores. The early cushion proved insurmountable for the Gold, who spent the remainder of the game trying to claw back.
Osceola’s offense was balanced and efficient, paced by key performances from its frontcourt. Center Colin Castleton anchored the interior, while power forward Alex Morales provided versatile scoring and playmaking. Guard Lester Quinones stretched the floor with his perimeter shooting. The Magic shared the ball effectively, generating numerous assists on cutting layups and open three-pointers.
For Grand Rapids, shooting guard Dane Goodwin led the offensive effort, finding his rhythm from beyond the arc in an attempt to keep pace. Center Moses Brown provided a physical presence inside, but the Gold were hampered by 21 turnovers, which the Magic converted into 28 points. Grand Rapids also failed to capitalize from the free-throw line, missing 12 attempts in the game.
Osceola methodically managed the game in the second half, scoring 25 points in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth to keep the Gold at bay. Each time Grand Rapids threatened to build momentum, the Magic responded with a timely basket, often from Castleton in the paint or a drive from Beekman.
The victory completed a two-game road sweep for Osceola, which also defeated Grand Rapids on Saturday. The Magic now return home for a two-game set against Cleveland beginning Wednesday. The Gold embark on a three-game road trip, starting at Long Island on Thursday.
