Memphis vs. Austin
AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) -- The Austin Spurs used a dominant third-quarter surge to overcome a double-digit halftime deficit and outlast the Memphis Hustle 102-97 in a G League contest Sunday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
The game turned decisively in the third period. After trailing by 12 points at halftime, the Spurs erupted for 33 points in the quarter while holding Memphis to 27, flipping the script and taking a 73-76 lead into the final frame. The Hustle, which led 49-61 at the break after building its advantage with a 28-point second quarter, could never fully recover from Austin’s offensive outburst.
Memphis, the visiting team, was led by center Abou Ousmane of Brooklyn, New York. The Spurs’ victory was a balanced effort, with key performances from shooting guard Adam Flagler, power forward Tre King, point guard Trey McGowens, and shooting guard Jayden Nunn of Flint, Michigan. Guards Kyle Mangas and Donovan Williams, along with forwards Harrison Ingram and James Banks, also contributed significantly for the home side. Guard Charlie Brown was a key performer for Memphis.
The Spurs sealed the win with crucial plays in the final minute. After a Memphis timeout with 10 seconds remaining, the Hustle turned the ball over on an inbound play. Austin’s Kyle Mangas was then fouled and calmly sank two free throws with seven seconds left to extend the lead to five points. Memphis’ last-second three-point attempt missed, securing the Austin victory.
With the win, Austin improved its season record to 26 wins and 10 losses, solidifying its position as one of the top teams in the league. Memphis fell to 11-25 with the loss, continuing a challenging season.
The most important part of the game was Austin’s third-quarter turnaround. After being outplayed in the first half, the Spurs tightened their defense and found an efficient offensive rhythm, mounting a 33-27 quarter that erased Memphis’s substantial lead and established a momentum that carried them through a tight fourth quarter to the win. This pivotal period underscored the depth and resilience of the Austin roster against a determined Memphis squad.
Interstat’s ELO system had projected Austin with a 92.90 percent probability to win. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Austin on Sunday, March 1.
