South Bay vs. Texas
FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — The South Bay Lakers look to continue their push up the G League standings when they visit the struggling Texas Legends on Saturday night at Dr Pepper Arena.
South Bay (18-15) enters the contest with momentum, having won five of its last seven games. The Lakers are coming off a 128-116 home victory over San Diego on Feb. 11, where a balanced attack led by R.J. Davis (18 points, five rebounds, five assists), Anton Watson (15 points, seven rebounds, six assists) and Drew Timme (20 points, six rebounds) proved decisive.
The Lakers are led by guard R.J. Davis, who has been a dynamic force. Over his last eight games, Davis is averaging 23.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists, including a 45-point, eight-assist performance on Jan. 31 and a triple-double (30 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) on Jan. 29.
Texas (13-22) seeks to halt a four-game skid, most recently falling 121-120 in overtime to Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 12. Despite the loss, guard Miles Kelly poured in 31 points. Kelly has been a bright spot, averaging 20.6 points over his last five contests. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (16 points, 13 rebounds in the last game) and Moussa Cisse (15 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks) provide interior presence.
The teams are scheduled to meet in a back-to-back set, with this game following a matchup on Friday, Feb. 20.
South Bay holds a significant edge in the standings, but the Legends will aim to leverage home court and find a way to contain Davis’s all-around play. The Lakers’ recent offensive efficiency, scoring 124 points or more in four of their last five wins, will test a Texas defense that has allowed 115 points or more in each game during its current losing streak.
Following Saturday’s game, South Bay travels to face the Valley Vipers on Feb. 25. Texas continues a homestand against Valley on Feb. 28.
